So maybe you made some New Year’s resolutions this year to have a better self-care routine as a busy mom. However, you may have dropped off and feel like your progress on self-care goals isn’t looking too hot.

Instead of rushing out of bed before any kids have awoken to glam up for the day you find yourself hitting snooze until you are forced to wake up by an insistent toddler.

Maybe your mornings aren’t going how you envisioned them to at the start of the new year. If this is you, the best question to ask is WHY you aren’t achieving the blissful and organized mornings you desire.

It’s All in The Routine

Perhaps the reason why your mornings aren’t working for you is that you are trying to have a morning that doesn’t work for you. Instantly trying to get up at 5am when you never get up early and achieving a full glam makeup look when you never wear makeup are so drastic of changes that it’s a shock to your body to try to achieve them.

When you don’t change your mornings overnight, you get discouraged and think that you’ll never have the morning of your dreams so you would rather just sleep.

The problem with not having any time in the morning to prepare yourself for the day is that you already feel depleted right when you wake up! This will lead to unneeded stress and a feeling like you have already failed the day.

The Best Ways to Wake Up Earlier

The best way I’ve found to get out of bed in the morning is to make gradual changes. If you normally get up at 7am, shoot for 6:30. Once you get in the habit of waking up a bit earlier, you can try for increasingly earlier wake up times.

My next best tip is that you have to find something that makes you excited to get out of bed. The French are big believers in making life pleasurable! A lot of morning routines suggest reading or journaling, but that won’t work for me because if I were to do that, I would be asleep before I even opened the book.

Since I am a person who enjoys sleep and always feels tired in the morning, I have to have a stimulating and exciting morning ritual that makes me want to leap out of bed. Don’t get me wrong, I love to read books, but they won’t wake me up in the morning.

My favorite morning activity is to browse Pinterest for fashion and beauty inspiration, it’s like a digital catalogue! I know many would advise against screens in the morning, but saving Pinterest ideas does get me out of bed and it’s stimulating enough for me not to hit snooze.

Browsing Pinterest may not work for you which is why you should experiment with what will make you most excited to start the day. You can find out by thinking about what kind of person you are and what interests you the most. This will give you the motivation you need to start waking up a bit earlier!

I’m sure I’m not alone in this, but besides the regular water and coffee, having some sort of beauty routine in the morning will always give me a spring in my step.

You may think you’re a stay at home mom who isn’t going anywhere so it’s ok to wear pajamas all day and skip beauty routines, but the reality is that you’ll feel happier throughout your day and more motivated if you have a simple morning beauty thing that you do.

Now keep in mind I’m not talking about going for a full contour and false lashes glam look. That may be the picture that you see when you think of a chic mom, but I’m here to tell you the good news that looking good is so much simper than that.

The Surprisingly Easy Way to Look Good

Again, as I said at the beginning of this post, making big changes to your life lies in making small changes first. So did you want to know the French girl secret to always looking beautiful without all the effort?

The real French secret to effortless beauty is taking care of your skin. Skincare may not sound all that flashy, and it may also sound expensive and overwhelming to you.

However, I can show you that taking care of your skin is always the best makeup, give you a typical French skincare routine, and even give a recommendation about the best high quality skincare products that I use.

Less Is More

Just as in makeup, the French philosophy of skincare is also simple. Don’t be intimidated any longer with 10 step skincare routines! A typical French skincare routine only involves Micellar Water, an eye cream, and a moisturizer. It will take you five minutes at most to apply the products in the above order.

The genius of Micellar water is that you can easily wash your face by squirting a small amount on to a cotton swab and sweeping across your face: no rinsing from the sink needed at all! If you’re extra tired, try adding a peppermint toner before the eye cream.

My above linked recommendations on products are high quality clean formulations made in France and should last you 1-2 months with everyday use. The super chic amber glass packaging is the meaning of simple luxury and will make you feel fancy just like a French woman!

I dare you to try a French skincare routine for a week. You can perform the three-step skin ritual after you get done doing whatever makes you excited to leap out of bed in the morning. If you consistently take care of your skin in this way every day as a French woman would, you’re going to get all the benefits of feeling fresh, alert, more youthful, revived; you know, that whole effortless beauty thing! The best part is that it all can be achieved without a stitch of makeup! Please do yourself a favor and invest the money you would spend on makeup into a simple skincare routine.

Stick to your resolutions and improve your self-care routine today with a morning makeover the French way!

Yours Truly,
The Glamtorious Mrs.
